About Tirupathi

Tirupati is the town situated at the bottom of the Tirumala Hills. It is one of the ancient and popular pilgrimage centres in India and is said to have more pilgrims visiting it every year. It is well-known for the temple of Lord Sri Venkateshwara, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. People from every walk of life come here to worship the Lord who resides on the mountain range called as Sheshachalam. His presidency over the seven hills fetched Him the name as the Lord of Seven Hills.

There are many other places near Tirupati that are worth visiting. Tiruchanur is the abode of Goddess Padmavathi, Srinivasa Mangapuram is famous for the temple of Kalyana Venkateshwara Swami that are worth visiting. Other important temples like Govindaraja Swami Temple, Kapileshwara Swami temple, Sri Veda Narayana Swami temple, Sri Kodandarama Swami temple and Agastheeswara Swami temple are all historically important and worth visiting. Srikalahasthi, the abode of Lord Shiva is also near Tirupati and is worth visiting.

How to reach

You can reach Tirupati by air, rail or road. There are trains that travel via Renigunta or Gudur, but do not touch Tirupati. In such cases, Renigunta (just 10 km from Tirupati) or Gudur (100 km from Tirupati), are convenient points to alight. From Renigunta/Gudur, you can reach Tirupati by train or bus.

Travelling by car is another good option. From Chennai, it takes nearly 4 hours to drive down to Tirupati. From Hyderabad it is nearly 11 hours drive to Tirupati that might be tiring but enjoying for the one passionate for driving.

  • From Hyderabad
    • Distance from Hyderabad to Tiruapthi is about 600 kms and takes about 9hrs by car. When starting from Hyderabd, take the Bangalore Highway via the Shamshabad international airport via Jadcherla, Gadwal and Kurnool. Once you reach Kurnool take the Tirupathi road. For this the best way is to go through the Kurnool city and avoid the bypass road as taking this road will be circuitous. Nandyal, Allagadda, Mydukur, Kadapa, Rajampet, Kodumur are the Villages/Towns/Cities which you pass through. Through the Renigunta junction enter the City of Lord of Seven Hills, Tirupathi.
  • From Kanipakam
    • Once you have the drashan of VaraSiddhi Vinayaka take the road which lead to Chittoor. Just after crossing the tollgate take a left and drive through. The road towards right is NH4 and is the Bangalore High way. Take a Left follow down the road towards Sri Srinivasa Institute of technology and Management sciences which will be on the right side of the road. Follow down the road till you reach the village Murukambattu and the Bangalore - Chennai bypass road. Take a Left here and enter the NH18, follow this road till you reach Thimmareddy palli. After you cross this village take a right which leads to Tirupati via Panalpakkam, Chandragiri, reaching the Sri Venkateshwara Veterinary University and Vaikuntapurm.
  • From Kalahasti
    • Srikalahasti the Temple town of Sri Mallikarjuna is about 130kms from Kanipakam. Once you comeout of the town follow the road towards Sri Kalahasti Railway station onto Renigunta Via Erpedu. From Renigunta proceed onto tirupathi and take the road via Vaikuntapurm
  • From ChandragiriKota
    • Once you come out of the Chandragiri fort take the left and drive down reaching the Sri Venkateshwara Veterinary University and Vaikuntapurm. Total journey time should take about 45minutes.
